i have an illustration in the current issue of port city life (above). it looks nicer on paper.
hi all,
thanks to all of those who ordered a copy of steam city 1... i am trying to (some might say stupidly) print these to order as well as i can and as i have been laboring putting them together, i have realized that i need to raise the price to $6.
why?
$4 doesn't even nearly cover the cost of the ink i use to print one copy, not to mention the really nice paper i'm using. it's like great, every time someone buys a book i lose money. it got so bad last night i didn't want anyone else to buy a copy! isn't that sad? i was a step away from refunding everybody's money and not mailing any but then i took a deep breath and...
$6.
considering i am using the same materials and putting more effort into making these books than i would for a nice archival poster i'd sell $30 for, i think $6 is a necessity.
anyway, if you have already ordered one $4 (plus the dollar s&h) is what you shall pay but as of this morning i am bumping the price up to $6. i hope you understand. some of you might even get a copy of the book with the old cover price of $4! maybe you can sell that on ebay.
steam city no. 1 is all done.
it is $4 plus a dollar shipping & handling.
if you want to buy one you can buy it via paypal on the front page of erichou.net!
yay!
it's pretty much done, but i need to fine tune some flair and trimmings. sometime this week? i hope!
i am working at home today coloring in pages and doing general computer graphics work. the first issue of steam city (yes, i finally settled on the name) should be ready real soon. everything is inked and i am now working on it digitally. it will be presented in glorious black & white & green. i have been thinking about doing this for a while and while i like the drama free/purist approach of printing in black and white, i also think green is a good color for this story. it takes place in a city covered in plants, and i think it just adds a nice touch. anyway, i wasn't going to do it and last week we were driving through brunswick and i was staring out the window at all the green and thought 'i have to have green!'

above is a sample of page 4 in b&w&g.
i haven't worked at home in a while and it's nice to not be at the studio for a bit. i like hanging out with the cat and wearing my home slippers (i have slippers at my studio but they are flannel lined and the ones i have at home are shearling lined) and later i'm going to take a little walk and get groceries. i can take a walk downtown but there's people everywhere! not my cup of tea.

also, last night i was on the internet and the igoogle random cat pic generator came up with THIS gem! holy cow!! does anyone know anything about this picture? i couldn't seem to find any information about it. but it's amazing!! i want a poster of this in every room i spend time in.

if you knew me in 2005 you might remember how i was not grounded at all. you might remember how i lived above a chinese food restaurant and smelled all the time. you might remember my blue fuji ten speed which got stolen that fall. and you might remember the 'cat hair everywhere' drawing. i found this the other day in my filing cabinet and was like WHY ISN'T THIS A T-SHIRT?? anyway, cat hair everywhere will be a t-shirt when i place my next t-shirt order. i am also going to do a run of samurai owl shirts while i'm at it. i don't know if i can afford to buy shirts though until i get rid of some of the shirts i have right now (i have a ton of golden walter shirts and monkey king shirts sitting on a shelf behind me. also a few wolves if anyone is interested). i might have to wait until fall craft fair season. this shirt would be great on a heather gray sweatshirt.
i just finished penciling the first issue of the first issue of my grand old comic book starring grant & walter & candy & all those people. i have not settled on the name yet. i think i want to call the series 'steam city' and then have each storyline have its own name too. (steam city is the city where they all live.) anyway, by pencil, i mean drew in pencils then inked with a ballpoint pen and now i am going to ink it at my very bestest. then what? i'm going to print some to probably sell and then take it from there.
ok, back to the lightbox...
